Amazon’s ClickRiver vs Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing , and Microsoft Adcenter

Filed under: MemoryPress General, Internet Marketing — jeffreyharmon @ 6:10 am

Unbeknownst to me, both Ben and I applied for Amazon’s new ClickRiver limited beta within minutes after its release announcement. My application must have been moments sooner than Ben’s because my application got accepted into ClickRiver’s limited beta just three days later. iMemoryBook can now advertise on Amazon.com!

After using ClickRiver, I thought that I would let you know a couple of my initial thoughts on ClickRivers pros and cons:

Pros:

  • With ClickRiver, marketers now have a 4th huge advertising median (other three: Google, Yahoo, and MSN) that will be affordable to businesses of any size.
  • REAL TIME UPDATES of your page views and clicks!
  • ClickRiver is simple and easy to use.
  • ClickRiver has a Keyword suggestion tool I haven’t seen on Google, Yahoo, or MSN: You can type in one of your competitors URL’s , for example I typed in MyFamily.com:

Then it will give you all the keywords that they have on their homepage

Then you can just select with keywords you would like to bid on.

  • We are most excited to test targeted keyword sets that are related to the millions of Amazon books relevant to iMemoryBook’s content .

Cons:

  • ClickRiver doesn’t have the ability to insert dynamic keywords.
  • ClickRiver will not advertise your product unless the search bar was used. This means that if someone is only browsing Amazon through the menu, your ad will not come up; even if they browse through what would otherwise be relevant keywords.

When it comes to usability in the pay-per-click marketing world, here are our rankings:

  1. Microsoft Adcenter
  2. Amazon ClickRiver
  3. Google Adwords
  4. Yahoo Search Marketing (after using the others, Yahoo feel like a dinosaur, I hope they release their new site to the public soon)

We will report on how they produce later.

  1. I am very interested in how ClickRiver works for you. The Internet is such a boon to small businesses and customers. This ClickRiver looks like it can level the playing field even more. It reveals data on the competition–data normally a small company could never afford, that’s so cutting edge. And anything that connects what customers are looking for to a company that sells it (including the little companies)sounds great to me. I am a consumer and I want the best price and the best selection. Sounds like this ClickRiver will help companies give me what I want.

  2. Thx for the good words re Clickriver. :)

Clickriver *does* support dynamic keywords in creatives - they’re called “variable creatives” and you can find out more about them in the Help Desk, in the “Designing Your Creatives” section.

And, Clickriver ads do show up on more than the search pages on Amazon.com; Clickriver ads also display on some of the product detail pages.

    Cheers,
    Claire

  3. Can anyone give me ideas…
I have been using adwords to promote my online business websites. I almost never see any results. I think the most amount of traffic i have recieved from adwords is 5 unique visitors in a whole month. Is there anyother good ppc options besides google where i will get better exposure of my website.
